  • Facebook hits 1 billion users milestone

    Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has made an official announcement that the social media website has successfully hit 1 billion active users on September 14, 2012. To celebrate this milestone, it has released a television advert.

    According to the Key metrics report published on Facebook’s news section, the top five countries user wise were Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States (in alphabetical order). The site has 600 million mobile users. (more…)

  • Facebook explores new revenue earning options; allows Indian users to promote personal posts at Rs 99

    In a news release dated 3 October 2012, Facebook has opened the option for people to promote their personal posts on the social media site. Starting from yesterday, the users in the US can promote their posts to their friends at a cost, which is $7, according to This service, which was introduced in India a few days back, charges users with Rs 99 to promote a post.   • Global social media revenue to increase 43.1% y-o-y to $16.9 billion in 2012, says Gartner

    Market research company Gartner has put forth interesting revenue trends in the social media sector in its report “Forecast: Social Media Revenue, Worldwide, 2011-2016”.

    According to the forecast, social media revenue worldwide is projected to climb up by 43.1% year-on-year to $16.9 billion in 2012. The largest contribution to the revenue growth would be advertising, i.e. $8.8 billion in 2012. The other two contributors include social gaming and subscriptions with $6.2 billion and 278 million respectively. (more…)
