Government launches Twitter Seva to support the startup ecosystem in India
Under the Startup India, Stand up India’ initiative, the government recently announced the launch of “Twitter Seva”, a hotline service that will respond to queries from startups, exporters and importer, and other stakeholders.
Naturally, startups have high expectations from the government as this direct helpline via Twitter is expected to assist budding entrepreneurs in seeking funding, support or any kind of government assistance.
Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that a set of dedicated officers of the Commerce and Industry Ministry will respond to queries within 48 and 72 working hours. Twitter Seva will handle queries relating to the Department of Commerce and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). Any start up requiring assistance needs to simply tweet using the hashtag #mociseva.
A government official said, “It is a very active grievance redressal mechanism through social media because most of the entrepreneurs that the ministry caters to are already online, so using Twitter to solve their problems makes sense. Through this initiative with Twitter, a full blown software will be developed which will automate the whole process, working out a mechanism where grievances are automatically routed in real time to the concerned person, who works on it and feeds it back to the person.”
Twitter Seva is a good platform for entrepreneurs to put forward their ideas and also seek funding. Let’s see what the startups have to say on the launch of this service.
Anup Sahoo, Founder-Ideapoke, a crowdsourcing technology platform:
“Transparency is of utmost importance here as it will help syndicate the work force and help create better services/products for the consumers. This service is encouraging for startups to avail government support, not just in terms of monetary support, but through engaging participation in creating products that are affordable and also the business model scalable- which in turn will encourage investors.”
Avinash Tiwary, Director, PCloudy, smart mobile testing platform:
“I think the key to success of the Twitter Seva would be a time-bound response and resolution of the issues raised by start-up community. If it leads to faster clearances of issue faced by startups, it would benefit investors as well. It is an important step towards making India a start-up hub.”
In India, it is quite challenging for entrepreneurs to coordinate with a government department. Hence, Twitter Seva is a hope for startups in India to get timely responses to their queries. One substantial reason we expect this service to be a hit among the Indian startups is its ability to help entrepreneurs connect with investors for funding purposes.
Twitter is a strong social platform that facilitates speed and transparency. Hence, we expect the service to provide a one-stop solution to budding entrepreneurs planning to set up a business in India. Also, we think this is a great step to promote entrepreneurship in India but due measures needs to be implemented from time-to-time to better the process.
